onto the public shuttle-bus (commonly referred-to as 'Gua-Gua')
and head to Higüey and / or La Romana. Higüey,
the main city of the Provincia de la Altagracia houses the Basilica
de Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia (an important patron saint
of the Dominican people), which is certainly worth a visit. |

about a stroll along the delightful beach? Fifteen minutes eastwards,
the Mercado Bibijagua Baváro is to be found. There,
amongst other things, one stumbles on Larimar,
a turquoise semi-precious stone, unique to this island? By the way,
the Dominican adores haggling!

a twenty minute distance from Los Corales, in western direction,
the Mercado de El Cortecito is reached. Besides regular consumer
articles, the Mercado offers for sale a variety of souvenirs, as
well as colorful, naïve paintings by Haitian- and Dominican
