Los Corales
originates back to 1993 when it was created by Aldo Meroni,
from Milan, Italy. At the time, it consisted mainly of a restaurant
and five small villas, containing two apartments each. Initially,
the villas were sold to Milan-based friends of the founder.
However, as many remained vacant for a good part of the year,
the apartments were made available as rentals. In 1995, development
started with a second group of five similar houses, built immediately
behind the first group. Development did not stop here. Shortly
thereafter, in 1996, an independent investor bought the property
adjacent and built another group of ten villas, with the purpose
to exploit it as a small hotel. 1998 saw the main public road
between the construction site and the beach closed creating
a property with a grade A situation.
In 1998,
fifteen new houses were put up, about 200 yards off the beach,
with a piazzetta at its center. Around this favorite gathering
place, you'll find a few small shops, like the Cocoa Bar, an
ice-cream parlor, a pizzeria, a gift shop, and a beauty salon.
These days,
Los Corales is still considered a small and quiet paradise,
providing people an ideal setting to relax and to enjoy the
idyllic ambiance of the Caribbean. Los Corales is especially
suited for individuals who do not put the highest standards
of luxury in the foreground, but place more importance on a
quaint and personal setting. A few words of Italian or Spanish,
will certainly provide a few advantages, given that the folks
in charge (while able to converse in the English language as
well) are effectively of Italian nationality, with the bulk
of the personnel coming from the Dominican Republic.
